Why we use the Enlighten Evolution 3 tooth whitening system?
FAQs Enlighten Tooth Whitening
Does it hurt?
It is entirely normal to experience sensitivity during any form of tooth whitening. However the Enlighten technique and whitening gels have been rigorously designed to keep this to a minimum. Sensitivity varies greatly from patient to patient and your dentist will discuss this with you throughout the treatment and ways in which to minimise it.
The sensitivity is ENTIRELY TEMPORARY and will resume to normal levels after completing the enlighten process.
Does it harm my teeth?
No. There is no evidence to suggest this and our dentists have never seen any damage caused by Enlighten. Indeed it is one of the few techniques in dentistry that doesn’t result in some destruction of healthy tooth tissue.
How white will my teeth go?
This varies from person to person and really cannot be predicted for any technique. However Enlighten say that after 14 days of home whitening you can expect a Vita Shade B1. This is the lightest shade that traditionally we would make porcelain (white) crowns at the front of the mouth.
Is there a chance my teeth won’t whiten?
With any whitening technique we are relying on chemicals to do the work and unfortunately we cannot make them work. With previous techniques we saw quite poor results, however with enlighten we haven’t yet had a case where the teeth haven’t whitened. This said there is always a small risk you do not get the desired result and you will be advised of this at your assessment.
How long will the lightening last?
That varies. Diet is quite important-smoking and tea coffee, red wine etc will result in the teeth darkening. However you will retain your trays and can top up any time at home. Unlike other systems which require you to have the teeth re-whitened frequently (at great cost to you!) we have found the extremely cheep maintenance regime maintains your white teeth.
Are the trays uncomfortable to wear?
The trays are very accurately made to your individual teeth and are very slim. So they are comfortable to wear. The overnight wearing is strange to begin with but patients get use to this extremely quickly.
Will Enlighten whiten my crowns and fillings?
No. This is a major reason for your pre-whitening assessment. It may be necessary to replace these after whitening. Also if you require fillings or crowns on the front teeth for clinical reasons (e.g. broken or decayed teeth) it is best to whiten the teeth first so that we can match your filling/crowns to the newly whitened teeth.
