Fear of the Dentist

We completely understand that being scared of the dentist effects many people. Our experienced team will be on-hand to provide the top-quality treatment you need, and we pride ourselves in offering an exceptional standard of patient care at every step of the way. We realize that heading to the dentist isn’t always an enjoyable prospect and that’s why we endeavor to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible.

However being scared of the dentist is nothing to be ashamed of.

You may have had a bad experience in the past, or may be apprehensive because you haven’t been for a while, and know that you will need some work doing.

The first step is making the decision that you want to try to overcome this fear. Here at saving Smiles we work to make you feel as comfortable as possible and listen to your needs and worries, as well as looking after your dental health. We will answer any questions that you have, and discuss treatments with you so that you fully understand what will happen to make the dental experience less stressful.

Tips on how to ease your fear
Pick an appointment time early in the morning so you have less time to dwell on it.
The first appointment time will only be a check-up and a chat so don’t worry
Take a friend with you to your appointment.
Agree a sign with the dentist to signal that you need a break ad want them to stop. It can be simple as pointing your finger, and will help you feel more in control
If you think it will help, start gradually with a clean and a polish then work up to more extensive treatment once you’ve built up trust and rapport with your dentist.

Does coming to the dentist make you feel anxious?

We believe in talking through these fears to be able to offer the best solution; we’ll try to get to know you and gain an understanding of your overall health and your lifestyle. From there, we can establish the best treatment plans to meet your needs and ensure that you leave our clinic smiling.

We offer additional solutions for those that are anxious and nervous about dental treatment including
Relaxed programme with very small amounts of care each time so that you build trust and friendship with the team
Oral sedatives to help you feel more at ease and less aware of your surroundings
Sedation through controlled doses to help you feel very relaxed and help you forget about your visit to the dentist
